Skogøy, E. 2008. Arbeid med voldsutsatte kvinner med minoritetsbakgrunn: veileder. Oslo: Nasjonalt kunnskapssenter om vold og traumatisk stress. (Veileder).

These guidelines contain both factual information concerning violence in close relationships and a summary of working methods, relevant assistant services, cultural understandings and law. These guidelines are meant to be a practical tool of support for those who work with abused minority ethnic women.

These guidelines consist of three main parts, and each part is meant to be used in a different way.

  • General information that can be useful when working minority ethnic women who have been abused.
  • Practical information concerning available assistance, legal rights and practical measures. The most important topics in this section include; safety, housing, free legal aid, economy, health, qualifications/work, social network and assisting women who have children.
  • Summaries that “are good to have… just in case,” one has the use for such information. There is for example an outline on current or up to date rules and regulations as well as other useful assistance that is found on the internet.

NKVTS was assigned the task from the by the Ministry of Children and Equality to start the “skill developing project concerning abused minority ethnic women” as part of the implementation of the government’s action plan “Violence in Close Relationships.”  The need for more research in this field has been revealed to be great and these guidelines are one step further in this endeavor.
