The Tsunami programme

Immediately following the Christmas 2004 tsunami, NKVTS began planning a research programme that would comprise a total of 8 sub-projects. The first data collection was conducted 6 months after the catastrophe. The centre's research method and instruments were also used by Danish researchers at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen (10 months after the disaster) and by Swedish researchers at the Resource Centre for Disaster Psychiatry at the University of Uppsala. The number of Scandinavians involved in natural disasters and who could be examined totalled more than 14,000 persons. The progressive occurrence of health problems following the disaster has been further surveyed through interviews/questionnaires, including follow-up after about 2.5 years
