National helpline for victims of violence

Before the end of 2015, NKVTS intends to conduct a study to see if a national helpline for victims of violence in close relationships and sexual violence/rape is required. This necessity will be evaluated in regards to the creation of a new web portal concerning violence in intimate relationships. We will then evaluate whether or not the needs of those who have experienced violence in close relationships are met by already existing services and provide a rapport with this information

Main objective

Considering that there already exists several different helplines, this study’s objective is to find out if there is a need for a national helpline. This study will produce a report with our assessments and be sent to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, Ministry of Children, Equality and Social Inclusion, and the Ministry of Health and Care Services.

Method

We will conduct interviews with established helplines who presently aid Norwegian victims of violence above the age of 18 years. In instances where other Nordic countries have an established national helpline for victims of “violence in close relationships” we will contact them and possibly interview them.

In order to find studies or other information already gathered on helpline experiences, a literary search will be conducted. The results of this literary study will then be judged in relation to a new web portal for the victims of violence, to see how these resources can work together and complement each other for the benefit of future clients.

Further information

A report will be written, based on the analysis of the collected data and be sent to the following departments; Ministry of Justice and Public Security, Ministry of Children, Equality and Social Inclusion, and the Ministry of Health and Care Services.
