Evaluating the need of a national internet-portal on violence in close relationships and rape.
Borgen, G., & Gulbrandsen, L. (2012). En nasjonal nettportal om vold i nære relasjoner og voldtekt. En utredning av behovet [Evaluating the need of a national internet-portal on violence in close relationships and rape.] Norwegian only.
The purpose of such a web-portal was to make it easier for users to find their way in the jungle of assistance services available and to find information and academic literature. The report describes the process, method, result and recommendations that arose from this project.
The project concluded that there is a great need for an executive internet-portal to help clients find information and assistance concerning violence in close relationships and rape. Even though there are many good existing services on the internet from many different organizations within this field, many of the websites are difficult to find, even with the perspective of an equal. It is difficult if one is not aware of these sites and knows their web address beforehand. Few websites, if any, provide a complete overview of the services available.
If an individual was to search the internet for information or available services, it is essential for the internet user to know the most common academic terminology. There is a lacking awareness in those who have created these websites concerning optimizing their search engine. So searching does not always ensure finding a services websites even though they contain high quality information for their target service users.
The project group suggests two conceptual solutions, the first an editorial-run web-portal and the other a “guide of the internet.” Both options are compared and discussed as and held in comparison to what a “National internet-portal” should optimally be. The first option has adults as their target group. The other model discusses having one access for children and another access for adults. Independent of what type of solution is chosen the project group recommends including a one-to-one chat function service.
