Primary research interest: How do social relationships and the larger society influence mental health adaptation following violence and traumatic stress exposure?

Siri Thoresen is a licenced clinical psychologist, and currently holds a position as Research Professor at NKVTS and as Professor at the Department of Psychology at the University of Oslo. She has initiated and led numerous studies within the field of violence and traumatic stress. Her doctoral thesis from 2005 concerned suicide and mental health in veterans from international military operations. Since then, she has conducted studies on violence and rape in Norway, childhood violence and revictimisation, and disasters.

Her studies have resulted in a large number of scientific publications and have been communicated to broad audiences. She has for several years been a member and secretary of European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and an associate editor of European Journal of Psychotraumatology. She also has personal experience with working for an NGO in a war zone.
